2024

Hazing · Pi Kappa Phi

Court records allege that in August 2024 Pi Kappa Phi pledges were forced onto their hands and knees, stepped on, pushed, pelted with objects and doused with beer during a 'rules night,' and days later were lined up for wall sits and push-ups while members allegedly pushed and struck a pledge on video.

Status: Five members were charged with misdemeanor hazing in October 2024 (four with two counts each, one with one count); all bonded out of jail. The cases were pending at the time of reporting.

Response: The university said it was investigating with law enforcement and the national organization; Pi Kappa Phi's national office began individual and chapter disciplinary action.

A lawsuit alleges a pledge was beaten by six members, told to snort a white powder and told he would 'die' in a basement, resulting in a traumatic brain injury.

Status: Alleged in a civil lawsuit filed September 19, 2023 against SAE; no ruling reported.

Response: SAE said it was working with university administrators and cooperating with law enforcement.

Response: University stopped all fraternity pledge activities and launched a review of all fraternities.
