Hazing · Kappa Alpha Psi

Three men were charged after two prospective members, including a UM law student, were allegedly beaten with canes and paddles in April 2026, leaving one needing surgery for kidney failure; the fraternity says it involved an alumni (non-university) chapter.

Status: Charged with attempted manslaughter, aggravated battery and hazing with a deadly weapon (July 2026); pending.

Response: Kappa Alpha Psi said suspects are not active members; UM said incident has no tie to its undergraduate chapter.

Hazing · Phi Delta Theta

Videos allegedly showed a person's pants being set on fire and pledges made to crawl in a line during a 2026 event; the person was reportedly not injured.

Status: Under investigation by the UM Dean of Students and the national fraternity as of August 2026; no police involvement reported.

Response: Chapter suspended until the semester start (Aug. 17, 2026) while investigation proceeds.

Hazing · Sigma Alpha Epsilon

A viral video appeared to show members drinking milk and expelling it onto a member seated in a trash can.

Status: Investigated for hazing; UM found no hazing-policy violation but found disorderly conduct and alcohol violations (March 2024).

Response: Chapter suspended for the rest of spring 2024 semester; return on probation.
