A lawsuit alleges that a freshman was coerced into drinking excessive alcohol at a fraternity event and was hospitalized with acute alcohol poisoning.
Status: Civil lawsuit filed in February 2020 against Drake University, Theta Chi and its Drake chapter; the outcome was not reported.
A former student said a political science professor, who was her adviser and led a 2011 student trip to Egypt, made her sit on his lap, put his arms around her and threatened to spank her if she did not earn all A's. A university investigation found that his conduct physically, sexually and verbally intimidated female students.
Status: Found in an internal university investigation to have violated university policies. No criminal charges were reported.
Response: The university placed him on leave with no teaching duties and allowed him to resign, effective June 2018. It did not refer the matter to police.
