College staff misconduct · Accused: former biology professor
A student reported in spring 2018 that a biology professor propositioned her for sex in exchange for an A and offered to change her grade if she kept quiet; she provided UNO with an audio recording and text messages. UNO had hired him despite a 2009 arrest in an online child-solicitation sting that its background check missed.
Status: Fired by UNO in June 2018 after reviewing the evidence; he denies the allegations. The student's lawsuit against the state was settled for $20,000 in 2020.
Response: UNO suspended and then fired the professor; the state paid a $20,000 settlement, and UNO's president said the university would expand online vetting of job candidates.
