College staff misconduct · Accused: two former professors (language and literature; communications)
In August 1996 a senior told university officials and police she had been assaulted at a professor's home. Two professors and a third faculty member were present, and she said they may have drugged her. The professors denied any assault.
Status: No criminal charges were filed. The university charged the two professors with violating its policy against amorous relationships with students they supervised and recommended dismissal.
Response: The university suspended both professors with pay in September 1996. Both resigned in early 1997 under an agreement that barred them from working on campus.
