Hazing · Sigma Nu (Delta Xi)

An 18-year-old pledge fell down stairs at the chapter house during an October 2016 pledge night with heavy drinking and died 12 days later.

Status: Campus police found no probable cause for felony or gross-misdemeanor charges; parents' wrongful death suit ended in a confidential settlement (2019), with one defendant settling for $300,000.

Response: UNR suspended the chapter and withdrew recognition for 15 years (Dec 2016); Sigma Nu national revoked the charter (Jan 2017).
