College staff misconduct · Accused: former pediatric endocrinology researcher at the university's hospital
A former pediatric growth researcher at Rockefeller University Hospital sexually abused child patients enrolled in growth studies over decades, including nude photographs, genital measurements and fondling, according to a university-commissioned investigation.
Status: Never charged (died in 2007). A 2019 independent investigation by Debevoise & Plimpton commissioned by Rockefeller found he sexually abused children over decades; more than 900 people contacted the investigators.
Response: Rockefeller apologized, stripped his emeritus titles in 2018, funded counseling for former patients and reported the accounts to state and federal authorities. Civil lawsuits followed.
