Hazing · Delta Tau Delta

A pledge reported that on March 16, 2019, members blindfolded pledges, forced them to drink heavily and smoke marijuana, beat them with wooden paddles, and kicked and spat on them; he was hospitalized.

Status: 18 men indicted by a Butler County grand jury in October 2019 on 64 misdemeanor counts including assault and hazing; 12 had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor hazing by early 2020 (fines and suspended jail terms), remaining cases continued.

Response: Miami University suspended the chapter for 15 years; the national organization revoked the chapter's charter in June 2019.

Miami University's hazing report listed the chapter for hazing four students; an attorney for one said they were beaten with paddles and canes over five weeks with sleep deprivation.

Status: Found responsible by university; banned from campus until 2040.
