Penn's first Stop Campus Hazing Act transparency report found the pre-health professional fraternity responsible for hazing in Oct. 2025, including tying new members together and making them drink champagne.
Status: Found responsible by university (sanctions Dec. 2025).
Response: Social probation, recruitment ban through 2026-27, mandatory training. The report also listed earlier incidents involving Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Alpha Mu, Sigma Delta Tau and Chi Omega.
A prominent brain-injury researcher who directed Penn's Head Injury Center sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman with deferred admission to Penn's veterinary school in his campus office in 2002, after co-workers had raised concerns about his behavior toward students.
Status: Pleaded no contest to sexual assault; after prosecutors challenged a house-arrest sentence he was resentenced in 2008 to 3.5 to 7 years in prison.
Response: An earlier internal inquiry found no wrongdoing; he went on leave in 2003 and resigned in December 2003. The woman sued him and the university.
