College staff misconduct · Accused: former tenured geography professor and research lab director
Years of abuse: 2018
In August 2018 UT Knoxville received a report that a tenured geography professor and lab director had an intimate relationship with a student, followed by further reports of inappropriate conduct with students, some of it sexual in nature, that the university described as a pattern of abusing his position.
Status: Placed on leave during a university investigation; resigned in lieu of termination in 2018, relinquishing tenure and emeritus status and made ineligible for rehire. No criminal charges were reported.
Response: UT barred him from campus, re-keyed the lab, reassigned his courses and graduate committees, offered counseling to students and reviewed publications involving him and his students.
