Hazing · Phi Kappa Psi

A 20-year-old Phi Kappa Psi pledge was found dead in November 2017 after attending an off-campus fraternity event. The university had opened an investigation into a complaint about the chapter weeks earlier, and the national fraternity had already ordered the chapter to halt social activities.

Status: San Marcos police investigated and said criminal charges were likely; Texas law makes hazing a felony when it results in death.

Response: Texas State suspended all Greek-life activity across campus after the death.
