College staff misconduct · Accused: tenured mathematics professor and academic adviser
A student alleged that a tenured math professor who was her academic adviser repeatedly commented on her body, gave her gifts, texted her often, said they would someday marry and, in November 2013, showed her a sexual photo on his phone.
Status: Found by the university to have violated policy by sexually harassing the student (a separate stalking allegation was dismissed); he denied the allegations and contested the finding before the Vermont Labor Relations Board. No criminal charges reported.
Response: In 2015 Castleton's president suspended him and banned him from campus; he reportedly lost about $60,000 in compensation.
